Erik,
It is likely that this is Flushing, a section of the borough of Queens in New
York City. Whitestone Station in Flushing, Queens would be the name of the
post office where the mail was processed. His occupation appears to have been
a merchant seaman. There are specific organizations which aided merchant
seamen, perhaps one of these might be of help in your quest. Here is a list of
