Subject: Re: [PARSONS-L] Any New England Parsons who moved South?

Hi Ruth!
I "daughtered out" of the Parsons line very early with the marriage of Sarah
Parsons to Luke Hitchcock at Springfield in the 1600s, but I feel kinship to
the Parsons researchers.
I think it is entirely likely that Parsons individuals moved out of
Massachusetts and Connecticut as the country opened up further west.
Particularly, I think it is possible that some Parsons individuals moved west
or south because of bounty land warrants for Revolutionary War service.
An effort on the Parsons rootsweb list to post the earliest known individuals
west of the states on the Eastern seaboard might be useful for Parsons
individuals. Or, perhaps Parsons researchers could also use the
www.genforum.com site to pursue "early" Parsons individuals.
The New England Historical & Genealogical Register printed, in some of the
volumes published in the 1800s, ship passenger lists of passengers to Virginia
from Massachusetts. I know that there is a published index for the first 50
volumes, and there may be a published index for later volumes. Reprints of
the NEH&GR are available from The Higginson Book Company at Salem, MA, and
from Heritage Books and are listed in their catalogs.
The published pension index for Revolutionary War service may be worth
checking for Parsons individuals to help bridge the gap after the
Revolutionary War. Entries for an individual usually represent the state from
where they served and often other locations associated with their life, as
well as names of spouses and sometimes children. I think that index is likely
to be available at any reasonably well-stocked genealogical archive or
library.
Good hunting!
