Carole, thank you for answering and giving the input on your Joe Parsons
(grandfather).
Everyone in the United States is required to have a birth certificate to
enter school. When I was a small child and started to school...we did NOT
have to have a birth certificate on school records. The Social Security
program started requiring everyone have a birth certificate, and if you were
born before birth certificates were issued, you had to have Bible records
that had been recorded in the family Bible or a Person who could verify
(such as a close living relative; mother, father, sister/brother or someone
who was present at the time of your birth.
Since my JOE PARSONS was born either in 1859...1866...or 1871..(I believe
the 1859 is probably more accurate or the 1866.. and we can't find any
Bible records..it is almost impossible for us. If the 1890 census had not
been destroyed, and I know he was traveling, following the Railroads that
were being built for the first time in Arkansas and Oklahoma, sometimes he
probably was not on the 1910 census.
We have him as JOE in the 1900 census living in HOWE, OKLAHOMA..and then in
1920 (After JOE has died) with my grandmother, Ida Lue (DeHart) HARRIS (she
had remarried)..and MY FATHER is only 11 years old at the time.
If you have names you think might be in the 1880 CENSUS in USA...I would be
happy to search for you. I would need approx. birth dates and names...
Thank you again.
