I can't tell you the names of the collieries in Tamaqua, but I'm sure there
were several and different ones in different periods. Nobody needed to go
to Hazleton from Tamaqua to work in a coal mine.
> Hi, I just learned that my gt gt grandfather, Joseph Islieb, who
>lived in Tamaqua Boro was a miner. He's listed on 1860 & 1870 (having
>arrived from Saxony, Germany abt 1856); believed died @ 60 yrs in abt
>1890.

> mines were there in Tamaqua or would it have been the Hazleton Mines?
>Are there records on the web containing data on miners? In other
>words, what if anything can anybody tell me regarding his being a
>miner as I have no knowledge of the subject & am not able to visit PA.
>Thanks so much. Sandy Researching ISLIEB - SAGER - MICHAEL - SMITH -
