Am passing this on with Peggy's permission. She has a great idea of what to do with the books (see #5) to make sure they go where she wants them to go. I know it is long, but worth reading.I am going to do the #5 this week-end. This is a good idea for anything we have.

I can't tell you how tender this subject is to my heart. I give quite a few
lectures and seminars where I live, and I always conclude with this same
subject.
Here are some of my ideas:
1. Make and keep yourself organized throughout all of your years of
research. If it looks like a jumbled mess, no one will want to take the time
to straighten it out. If it is in a good order, with good documentation,
then they will be more likely to preserve what you worked so hard on.
2. Put your information on a disk and send it to the Ancestral File at the
Family History Department of the LDS Church. It will be preserved.
Periodically edit and update your info.
3. Give a disk to one of your relatives, and put one into an emergency pack
(like a 72-hour kit) so that if you have to evacuate your house quickly, your
research will not have gone up in smoke.
4. If you would like to give a hard copy to relatives, here's an idea.
Download it onto a disk and take it to a place like Office Max during one of
their copy sales. They will run it through their high-speed copier and it
will lessen the load on your printer. One of our places here in town charges
just 2 cents if you bring your own paper.
5. Finally, I have collected and amassed a tremendous amount of paper and
books. Some books I have made ~ notebooks full of info. Some I have bought
or ordered. I don't want it just packed up and given to Goodwill or sold at
an auction. So, on my label-maker program, I made up a bunch of labels and
printed them off on neon -yellow labels. It is placed inside the front cover
of each of these books. It simply says:
"Please donate this book to the Mansfield Family History Center in the
name of Peggy Clemens LAURITZEN" or "Please donate this book to the Ohio
Genealogical Society in the name of Peggy Clemens LAURITZEN" or "Please pass
this book along to _____". The latter may be intended for a friend or
family member.
Hopefully, this will be helpful to a grieving family when they may not be
thinking straight.
