I am interested in the Patterson family of SW Virginia...early Augusta county. My earliest Patterson was William married to Jane Culton & 2nd to Ann Edmiston. William was born about 1744 possibly in Ireland & died in 1787 in Montgomery Co, VA. From my understanding the Patterson family received land from the Borden grant which part was in Orange Co, VA. My William eventually moved to the Holston River area [received land grants] and later this land was sold by his children. My gggg grandfather, William Jr moved to Wythe Co to an area called Crockett's Cove.
I believe all the Patterson's of early Orange and Augusta counties are, most likely kin. I just can't connect them.
Children of William Sr & Ann Culton were:
Margaret married James Atkins, Mary married Andrew Calhoun, William married unknown and Agnes Patton, Joseph married Jane Walker and Isabella married Samuel Shannon.
William Sr and Ann: Andrew married Elizabeth Cole.
William Jr was born about 1760 and died Jan 25, 1825 in Wythe.
Most of these male names run through the family. I'm sure there is a connection with all the Patterson families.
Becky

Looking for information on the family of :
Joseph Patterson and wife Mary who had a Deed dated 1788 in a land sale
involving Major Dowel.
It says in part: This Indenture was made 26th day of Feb 1788 between Joseph
Paterson and Mary his wife of the county of Orange of the one part and Major
Dowel of the county of Albemarle all in the state of VA.
If anyone is doing research on this PATTERSON line, I would like to hear from
you, as I believe that my ancestor William PATTERSON b. ca1780 Louisa Co.VA
could possibly be their son.
