I know the South is different (records are usually harder to find), but I
first found a court order among the county records and then was able to obtain
microfilm with limited information on the patients of a State Hospital here in
GA. These microfilm records were found in the GA State Archives.

The information gave me the date of admittance, the diagnosis, and the date he
died (in the hospital). AND, the fact that his sister had been admitted at an
earlier date.

So don't give up hope of finding something on your family members if it's been
over 70 years since occurrence.
