I hope you're right about the paper trail. Suspect you are, even.
However, there is a passage in "Whiskey Rebels, Story of a
Frontier Uprising," where the author speaks of a man who thought
he'd become a lawyer and was "apprenticed" (my paraphrasing; the
author said John Neville "undertook to study law under
Brackenridge") to Henry Brackenridge, the famous Pittsburgh
lawyer of the period.
