Beham
W.A. Oldham, of Bethany, preached last Sunday, very acceptably
to
the congregation here. Among the attendants were Elizabeth and Pearl
Sprowls, of Good Intent.
Miss Emma Frazier, of Washington, and Miss Lily Egan, of Coon
Island were recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. A.L. Blayney's.
The threshing machine owned by John Sampson, was upset on the
farm
of Thomas Strope near town and badly damaged.
Quite a number of people from here attended the reunion of the
old
Academy students at West Alexander.
A. Johnston was a Canonsburg visitor last week.
An infant child of Dora Hartley's was buried Sunday. The mother
is
seriously ill.
Miss Dessie Blayney was a Claysville visitor last week.
Miss Laura Linville has almost recovered from an attack of
typhoid
fever.
Miss Jean Wirt of Dallas, is still seriously ill.
T.L. Chapman, of McCracken, was the guest of relatives here
Sunday.
Dr. R.W. Chapman, of Des Moines, Iowa, and Henry Chapman, of
Donley, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Whiteman.
Rev. Mr. Ryan, of Holidaysburg, and sister, Mrs. A. VanScaoc, of
England, spent a few days with the family of M.J. Whiteman.,
F. Dolan and family are improving somewhat.
Mrs. Will Jones, of Enon, spent last week with her father, Isaac
Whiteman, who is still able to be around though not improving as rapidly
as his friends desire.
Miss Jean Porter has returned from Martin's Ferry, O.
Taylorstown
Letters of Administration on the late Scott Ritchey have been
issued to Mrs. F.L. Ritchey and L.J. Beabout.
Charles Grimes, the blind boy, who is attending school at Turtle
Creek, has sent home a dozen brooms of his own construction. They are
neat and
well made.
Mrs. Jennie and Miss Maude Blayney attended the reunion of the
descendants of James and Henry Hervey, who landed in Philadelphia from
Ireland, in 1790. The reunion was held on the 22d, at Wheeling Park,
and 85 descendants were present.
The death of Mrs. Nancy Jane, relect of the late Matthew
Crossland,
occurred, she died in her home here last Sunday, August 26, 1900, after
a long illness, of general debility, aged 65 years. She is survived by
three sons and two daughters, Isaac, of Independence township; Samuel,
of West Newton; William J. and Misses Margaret and Nannie, at home.
Three brothers surviving are James and Absolom Houston, of Washington;
and Abraham, of Buffalo township. Miss Crossland was a consistent
member of the Christian church, and had many friends. Funeral services
at her late home on Tuesday, conducted Revs. Schrontz
and Harsha, and well attended. Interment in Claysville cemetery.

M.E. Ealy, the Barnsville furniture dealer, has received a neat
new delivery wagon.
Coon Island
B.L. Post and sons shipped last week two head Shorthorn cattle
to
Porterfield Brothers, at Warwick, O. and to J.S. Wegner, at East Earl,
Pa.
Miss Kate Hawkins and brother, Tom, and Miss Hartley of West
Liberty, are visiting the home of Harrison McCarty.
James Ryan was a business visitor at the county seat Thursday.
Mrs. G.Y. Holmes, with her two little daughters, spent Wednesday
with her sister-in-law, Mrs. C.W. Miller.
