I have in my own personal possession the Crumrine book and the McFarland
book. both are excellent histories of Washington County.
The full title of the Crumrine book is "History of Washington County, Pa.
With Biographical Sketches of Its Pioneers and Prominent Men" by Boyd
Crumrine published in 1882. $89.95
The other book is "20th Century History of The City of Washington and
Washington County and Representative Citizens" by J. F. McFarland published
in 1910. $129.95
I purchased mine from Mechling Associates at

The dear ladies at the Genealogical Society of Southwestern Pennsylvania
awhile back did an "Every Name Index" for the Crumrine book. There is an
index that comes in the Crumrine book but it is very small. These dear
ladies took the time to read through the 1293 pages and make a notation
every time a proper name was mentioned. The result was an additional 135
page index for the Crumrine book which makes the book much easier to
reference.
The problem is: when you purchase the Crumrine book, the Every Name Index
does not come with it. I inquired as to why and was told that it was simply
out of print. So I went to the Citizens Library in Washington, PA (I live
close) and photocopied the entire 135 page index.
This is why I can look up names easily.
Hopefully one day, I will get to enter this valuable index into WORD but
right now I just have a photocopy.
