Subject: [PAWASHIN-L] Questions about east Canonsburg 1925-1935
Date: Sun, 11 Jul 1999 11:55:46 -0500

Hello,

I have a relative who's father was an Italian immigrant. He married
a Washington Co. girl and they set up house in east Canonsburg.
That was in 1925. They had three children before he went back to
Italy in 1932.

I assume that the kids were baptized into the Catholic church. My
question is this: which Catholic church served the Italian community
of east Canonsburg in 1925? I know there was a Polish church,
St. Genevieve on College St. and there is St. Patrick's on Pike St.
today. Was there ever an Italian church? If not, where did the 1925
community attend?

Next question: I would like to find a picture of someone who may or may
not be a relative. I believe they attended St. Patrick's in 1960's & 1970's.
I know that St. Pat's published church directories with photos at one
time. Which years did they do that? Does anyone have a copy of
those directories who would be willing to do a lookup?

Next question: Does anyone know what industries (aka "mills") were
in business in Canonsburg 1925-1930? I know there was a tin mill in
Canonsburg at one time. Also, I suspect industry was hit hard during
the depression. Can anyone comment on that with respect to industry
in Canonsburg?

Thanks,
Jean Suplick Matuson
