Having received so much information about Civil
War documents (thanks to everyone), I was wondering
if anyone on the list knows whether there are Court
Order books for Washington County. For those of
you unfamiliar with these, what it does is list
what happened in Court on a given day, with records
of the event geneally filed away somewhere. So,
you'd have an entry like "Samuel Maxwell, defendent"
on January 23, l807. Then, by finding the records
for that day, one could determine what the law suit
was all about. If nothing else, they establish that
a particular person was in a specific place on a
specific day and the information contained in the
files for that day might be of genealogical value.
I'm most specifically interested in Court Order
books for the years 1783 to 1796. It's kind of
interesting, by the way, to note how many law
suits were filed in those days!
