Hello Sarah,
You can find some early Reed ancestors in J.S. Van Voorhis book The Old and
New Monongahela.
on pages 44, 70, 211, 374, 422, 457, and 463. This book was published in
1893 without an index and had a green cover. The later blue covered reprint
has an index. Just in case you come across the older version I have
provided the page numbers. A barber in Belle Vernon in the 1950's was
Jimmie Reed, I believe. One of the Reed's may have been a customer of David
Furnier's store and one of the earliest settlers. Furnier's store was one
of the first in the area and was located on the east side where the I-70
bridge crosses the Monongahela River.
These Reed's may have come from the Northern Neck of VA around Winchester
along with my ancestors. In Cecil Odell's book Pioneers of Old Frederick
County, VA published in 1995 you will find the Reed family on pages 282,
284, 293, 296, and 403. William and John Reed bought land on Opequon Creek
in 1740 and at another place near Strasburg, VA.
