JOHN M. MCDOWELLs WED 50 YEARS

A McDonald couple, Mr. and Mrs. John M. McDOWELL, quietly observed their
50th wedding anniversary on Tuesday in their home in East Lincoln avenue.
John MCDOWELL and Mary HADDEN were united in marriage August 16, 1910, in
the HADDEN home; the same building in which the McDOWELLs reside and were
Mrs. MCDOWELL was born. The ceremony was performed by the late Dr. W. D.
IRONS. They have spent their entire married life in McDonald.
Mr. MCDOWELL has operated a meat market in McDonald for 50 years, having
purchased the business from his father-in-law, the late Charles G. HADDEN.
The market has been in continuous operation at the same location in East
Lincoln avenue since 1869. It was the first meat market in McDonald.
The MCDOWELLs are the parents of five children-Margaret, the wife of R. W.
WALLACE of Pittsburgh, John A. MCDOWELL of Oakmont, Miss June MCDOWELL,
Charles V. MCDOWELL, and Marian, the wife of Angelo T. CHRISTY, all of
McDonald. There are five grandchildren.
Mr. and Mrs. MCDOWELL were pleasantly surprised Sunday when their children
and grandchildren tendered them an anniversary dinner in the CHRISTY home in
Town & Country Acres.
The house was beautifully decorated in gold and white. The table
centerpiece was a tiered wedding cake surrounded by gold and white gladioli.
Following the dinner, a portrayal of "This is Your Life," prepared by their
children was presented and recorded.
Present were Mr. and Mrs. R. W. WALLACE and son John of Pittsburgh, Mr. and
Mrs. John A. MCDOWELL and daughters Suzi and Jody of Oakmont, Miss June
MCDOWELL, Mr. and Mrs. Charles V. MCDOWELL and sons Thomas and David, Mr.
and Mrs. A. T. CHRISTY, and Mrs. Margaret JAMISON, all of McDonald, and Mrs.
Cora RUSSELL of Midway.
