Earlier Ministers of the Washington Presbytery have quite extensive biographies. These are exerpts from the original in the book The Presbytery of Washington, 1889.

The Rev. Thomas Marquis - He came from his Virginia birthplace to Cross Creek in 1775, shortly after his marriage to Jane Park. Pastor of Cross Creek Church during the years 1794 to 1826. He died on September 27, 1827, while on a visit to his son-in-law, the Rev. Joseph Stevenson, at Bellefontaine, Ohio. Known as "the silver tongued orator" of the Western pulpit, he was small in stature and features, but there was power in his presence.

The Rev. George M. Scott - Was born in Neshaminy, Bucks Co., Pa. November 9, 1759, but removed with his father to Northampton Co. before the American Revoilution. Graduated from the Univ. of Pa. at Philadelphia in 1793. On May 17, 1797 he married Anna, d/o Co.. Samuel Rea, of Mt. Bethel, Pa. In 1799 he was called to Mill Creek church in Beaver Co., Pa. and Flats (now Fairview) in Brooke Co., Va. He died August 15, 1847 during a sudden attack of cholera He had a son, the Rev. John W. Scott.

The Rev. John Anderson - Born in Guilford, North Carolina on April 10, 1767. Pastor of the Church of Upper Buffalo during the years 1802-1833. A wife is not named, but he had two sons who are: Rev. William C. Anderson and John B. Anderson, an educator. Rev. John Anderson the elder died on February 8, 1835.

The Rev. Joseph Stevenson - Born near Hagerstown, Maryland on March 25, 1779. Pastor of Three Ridges (West Alexander) 1809 - 1825 when he resigned and removed to a farm near Bellefontaine, Ohio, where he remained the rest of his life. He was married to the d/o Rev. Thomas Marquis but no name is given for her. He died February 1865, sixteen years after his beloved wife. One son is mentioned, Rev. Dr. John M. Stevenson.

Rev. Cephas Dodd - Born at Ten Mile, Wash. Co., Pa. on October 12, 1779, a son of Thaddeus Dodd, and succeded his father as the pastor of the Upper and Lower Ten Mile Churches. He died in 1858. No wife or family is mentioned.
