SPEER, DAVIS, CHOME, GONDA, BORLAND, BELAK, FISHER

Mrs. Annie E. SPEER died at 10:00 a.m. Sunday, February 14, 1943, in the
home of her son, Dr. A. B. SPEER, Wilkinsburg, following a two-week illness.
She was a daughter of the late Silas B. and Ella MARSHALL.
Besides Dr. SPEER, she is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Luther BRIGHT of
PARNASSUS and Mrs. Harry MCWILLIAMS of Unity: one sister, Mrs. L. J. WEIR
of McDonald; one brother, C. A. MARSHALL of Imperial. There are six
grandchildren. Mr. SPEER died about fifteen years ago.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in the Unity United
Presbyterian church. Burial was in the Unity cemetery.

Barbara Irene DAVIS, sixteen-month-old daughter of William and June BISH
DAVIS of Shady avenue, Burgettstown, died at noon Thursday, February 11,
1943, in the Children's hospital, Pittsburgh, following a two-week illness
of pneumonia. She was born October 16, 1941 in Burgettstown.
Besides her parents, she is survived by her grandmother, Mrs. Isabella
DAVIS of Burgettstown, and her grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Walter BISH of
Midway.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in the BISH home in Midway,
conducted by the Rev. Philip W. HORNE, pastor of the Midway Baptist church.
Burial was in Fairview cemetery, Burgettstown.

Charles CHOME, a resident of Sturgeon the past fifty years, died at 7:35
p.m. Saturday, February 6, 1943, following a lingering illness.
He was born June 20, 1852, in Belgium and had been a resident of Sturgeon
since coming to the United States with his wife Anatalie DEVAULKANIER CHOME,
who died November 3, 1940.
Mr. CHOME is survived by three daughters: Julia, the wife of George TOWARD
of McDonald; Emma, the wife of Oscar BYKENS of Sturgeon, and Laura, the wife
of Emile MEUTE of Florence; a grandson, Charles CHOME, whom they adopted.
There are eight grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held February 10 in the CHOME, conducted by the Rev.
O. E. GARDNER, D. D., pastor of the First Presbyterian church, McDonald.
Burial was in Robinson's Run cemetery.

John Joseph GONDA, 50, of Laurel hill, R. D. 1, McDonald, died suddenly of
a heart attack at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, February 14, 1943, while at work at
the Oakdale Mining Co.
A son of George GONDA and Mrs. Sophia FABIAN, he was born April 5, 1892, in
Mt. Pleasant and had been a resident of McDonald since March 1933. Mr.
GONDA was a member of LaSolidarite association of Primrose, Fraternal Order
of Eagles No. 1244, Patton, and Loyal Order of Moose No 3353, Hastings.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter Emily, the wife of Alvin
MCMILLEN of Laurel hill; two sisters, Mrs. Susie COMPINATION of Elnora, and
Mrs. Kathryn MACEK of Spangler; a brother, Michael FABIAN of Spangler.
There are two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning with requiem high mass in St.
Alphonsus' church, McDonald. Burial was in Robinson's Run cemetery,
McDonald.

Andrew Cornelius BORLAND of the Bellefield dwellings, Pittsburgh, died
Tuesday, February 8, 1943, in the West Penn hospital. He was born in the
BORLAND homestead on Miller's Run near Venice, a son of Cornelius and
Rebecca KELSO BORLAND. In his early manhood he moved to Washington, where
he entered business and lived until the death of his wife, Amanda STEVENSON
BORLAND, in 1936. Since that time his home has been in Pittsburgh.
Mr. BORLAND is survived by four daughters: Miss Edna, Miss Laura, and Miss
Martha BORLAND, and Ms. James W. HOWELL, and also by a grandson, Thomas
Alexander HOWELL. A son Ralph preceded both Mr. and Mrs. BORLAND in death.
Funeral services were held in Washington on Thursday afternoon and were
conducted by two of his former pastors, the Rev. Dr. Stillman FOSTER of the
Third Presbyterian church of Pittsburgh and the Rev. Samuel SHANE of the
Second U. P. church of Washington. Burial was in the Washington cemetery.

Paul BELAK, 68, died Wednesday, February 7, 1943, in the home of his
daughter in Baden.
He was born in Austria and ha been a resident of the United States since
1906.
He sis survived by two daughters, Mrs. Kathryn GROSS of Baden and Mrs. Anna
WOZNIC (WOZNIE) of Ambridge, and son Paul J. BELAK of R. D. 4. McDonald.
The body may be viewed at Rogers Funeral home, 312 West Lincoln avenue,
McDonald. Funeral services will be held with requiem high mass at 10:00
a.m. Saturday in St. Barbara's church, Presto. Burial will be in St.
Barbara's cemetery.

Walter FISHER, 47, a motorman at the Westland mine of Pittsburgh Coal Co.,
died at 12:15 a.m. Saturday, February 13, 1943, while sitting in the mantrip
following the completion of the night shift Friday evening. Death was
attributed to a heart attack.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara, and the following children: Donna Faye,
Josephine, Effie Mae, Walter, Jr., Mathew and Jene, all at home; Mrs.
Harriett CHASE of Venetia R. D., Mrs. Elizabeth MALTUMAS of Sturgeon, and
Anna Jane of Arden. Mrs. Albina FISHER, mother of the deceased, resides at
Arden.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning in St. Hilary Roman Catholic
church in charge of the Rev. Andrew J. ZAPORA. Burial was in the Catholic
cemetery at Washington.
