Two Die As Result of Crossing Accident
One war worker was killed and two others injured seriously Thursday of last
week when their car was struck by a freight train as they were 200 feet from
the Flannery Bolt Co., near Bridgeville, where the trio worked.
George BENTREM, 40, of R. D. 1, Oakdale, driver of the car was killed, and
his "share-the-ride" passengers, Mrs. Rosier E. STRIMEL, 21, of Westland,
his niece, and Regis WAGNER, 20, of Bridgeville were injured. WAGNER died
Tuesday night from a fractured skull in St. Joseph's hospital, Pittsburgh.
The car was knocked ten feet and BENTREM was thrown out, while his two
passengers were trapped in the car. An outbound freight train struck the
car as it crossed the Pittsburgh & West Virginia railroad tracks in Kirwan
heights, Collier township.
Mrs. STRIMEL is in St. Joseph's hospital, Pittsburgh, where her condition
is reported as "fair". She is suffering from a chest injury.
Art SHIVER, police chief of Bridgeville, said this was the second serious
accident on the Washington pike crossing in the last two months.
