HAINAUT, HOWELL, DIETLEIN, VERNET, GARN
Gary E. HAINAUT, eight-month-old son of Amelia HAINAUT of Primrose, died at
4:30 a.m. Monday, February 15, 1943, in the Children's hospital, Pittsburgh,
following a week's illness of pneumonia. He was born June 6, 1942, in
Primrose.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Philip
HAINAUT, and his great-grandmother, Mrs. Hortense HAINAUT of Primrose.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, February 18, in the home of
his grandparents, conducted by the Rev. C. E. Chapman, pastor of the Midway
Baptist church. Burial was in Center cemetery, Midway.
George HOWELL, 68, of Muse died at 11:50 a.m. Thursday, February 18, 1943,
in the Canonsburg hospital after an illness of three days. Mr. HOWELL had
resided at Muse since 1929 and was a retired coal miner. A son of John and
Anna JACOBS HOWELL, he was born May 18, 1865, at Morgantown, W. Va. He was
a member of the Untied Mine Worker' Union at Muse.
Mr. HOWELL is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; three daughters, Mrs. Maude
DONAHUE of Uniontown, Mrs. Gladys SELVA of Muse, and Mrs. Freda IMPERATORE
of Canonsburg; four sons, Earl and Robert in the U. S. army, Edward of
Uniontown, and Albert of Muse; 11 grandchildren; two brothers Thornton P. of
Morgantown, W. Va., and Thomas of Smithfield.
Funeral services were held at the late home in Muse Sunday afternoon in
charge f the Rev. Ralph T. KEMPER of the South Canonsburg church. Burial
was in Oak Spring cemetery.
Charles DIETLEIN, 77, died at 4:00 o'clock Monday morning, February 22,
1943, in the Mercy hospital, Pittsburgh. He had been ill since early in
December, having spent three weeks of December and two of February in the
hospital.
Born in Switzerland, he had lived most of his adult life in the United
States and had been a resident of McDonald the past 25 years. He occupied
two rooms in the C. J. GRADY dwelling at Laurel hill, where he lived n
comfort and marked tidiness. He was a coal miner by occupation and his last
employment had been at the Sunny Hill mine between Oakdale and the
Steubenville pike.
Quiet, industrious, and thrifty, he was, as on of his neighbors expressed
it, "A good-living man."
He had no relatives in this country. Two sisters and a brother survive in
Switzerland.
The funeral was held this Thursday morning with requiem high mass in St.
Alphonsus' church. Burial was in Robinson's Run cemetery.
Mrs. Juliette MORIN MONSEAU VERNET, 83, of Weirton, W. Va., died Saturday,
February 20, 1943, in the Gill hospital, Steubenville, Ohio, of heart
trouble which was of seventeen weeks duration.
She was born August 10, 1860, in Belgium, came to the United States in
1891, and resided in Cecil until 1920, when she moved to Weirton.
Mrs. VERNET was twice married. Her first husband was Hubert MONSEAU. She
was married to Maurice VERNET in 1909.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons: Albert MONSEAU of
Warren, Ohio, and Sidney MONSEAU of Weirton, W. Va.; two daughters: Mrs.
Richard BRONWER of Canonsburg and Mrs. James FENARK of Weirton. There are
21 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the Venice U. P. church,
conducted by the pastor, the Rev. C. T. LITTELL, D. D. Burial was in the
Venice cemetery.
Mrs. VERNET was the aunt of Peter and Ernest VANDALE and Mrs. August DEVOS,
Sr., of McDonald, and Mrs. Philip CHAUSSARD of Farrell.
George W. GARN, 75, died at 1:15 p.m. Friday, February 19, 1943 in his home
in Imperial.
Born October 22, 1867, in Washington county, Pa., he and Mary Ellen MCMAHON
were united in marriage in November 1886 at Candor. To this union were born
nine children, of whom the following survive; Carl GARN of East Liverpool,
Ohio, and Arthur Jennings GARN of Canton, Ohio; Mrs. Margaret PLANCE of
Burgettstown, Mrs. Effie GAMBLE of East Liverpool, Ohio, Mrs. Lotta
PRITCHARD of Newell, W. Va., and Mrs. Bessie APPLEGATE of East Liverpool,
Ohio. There are 31 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. The first
Mrs. GARN died in August 1914. On February 14, 1920 he married Mary
Elizabeth BOWERS of Pittsburgh, who survives him.
He was an employee of the Montour railroad from 1919 until he retired on
April 7, 1937.
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. C. E. DAVISON in the Valley
church on Monday afternoon. A quartet composed of Miss Carrie COX, Mrs. R.
W. WRIGHT, Mrs. Charles MARSHALL, and Miss Jane PEARS sang several hymns
with Mrs. DAWSON at the organ. Burial was in Long's cemetery, Calcutta,
Ohio.
