LOWRY, JENKINS, DOUGHTY, KAUFMAN, DAVISON, DAVIDSON,
Robert B. LOWRY, prominent farmer of Mt. Pleasant township, and an elder in
the Grove United Presbyterian church, West Middletown for 29 years, died at
his home Thursday morning. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at
the Grove U. P. church followed by interment in the West Middletown
cemetery.
John JENKINS, 81, died suddenly at 8:45 a.m. Friday, March 26, 1943 in the
home of his son, Elmer JENKINS, Valley street, R. D. 1, McDonald.
He was born August 18, 1862 at Plymouth, Luzerne county. His wife, the
former Etta STEWART, died April 12, 1938.
Mr. JENKINS is survived by five sons: Otto of Shippenport, William,
George, and Elmer, all of McDonald, and Rupert of Ambridge; three daughters:
Mrs. Guy BROWNING of Southview, Mrs. Harper MCCUEN of Imperial, and Mrs.
Lloyd DEAROLPH of Ingram. There are 31 grandchildren and 13
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in the Rogers funeral home
conducted by the Rev. Grant MCKNIGHT, pastor of the Robinson's Run U. P.
church. Burial was in Raccoon cemetery at Candor.
Mrs. Sara Pearl CAIN DOUGHTY, 44, died Friday, March 19, 1943, in her home
on the Clinton-Carnot road, following a lingering illness.
She was born in Beaver county, where she spent practically her entire life.
She was a member of the Sharon Presbyterian church, Carnot.
Mrs. DOUGHTY is survived by her husband, Calvin DOUGHTY; two daughters
Florence and Frances, both at home; a son, David DOUGHTY at home; her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry CAIN of Beaver county; two sisters; Mrs. Edna
COMBS of Murdocksville and Mrs. Florence Miller of Beaver county; a brother,
Paul CAIN of Clinton.
Funeral services were held March 22 in the Sharon Presbyterian church,
Carnot, conducted by the Rev. S. G. NEAL. Burial was in the Sharon
cemetery.
Mrs. Bella BERTHOLD KAUFMAN, 48, wife of John KAUFMAN, died at 8:15 a.m.
Monday, March 28, 1943, in her home, 128 Fourth street, McDonald, following
a lingering illness.
A daughter of George and Barbara KRESS BERTHOLD of the Venice road, she was
born January 1, 1903, at Bishop and was a member of the First United
Presbyterian church, McDonald.
She and John KAUFMAN were united in marriage November 10, 1925, by the late
D. W. D. IRONS in his residence in McDonald.
Besides her husband and her parents she is survived by a son, George
KAUFMAN, 14, at home; four brothers, Harry BERTHOLD and John BERTHOLD of the
Venice road, Adam BERTHOLD of McDonald, and Henry BERTHOLD of Primrose; one
sister, Mrs. Oscar CRUMM of Canonsburg.
Funeral services are being held this Thursday afternoon in the Kaufman
home, conducted by the Rev. S. A. MCCOLLAM, D. D. pastor of the First U. P.
church, McDonald, assisted by the Rev. O. E. GARDNER, D. D., pastor of the
First Presbyterian church, McDonald, and the Rev. J. H. TARNEDDE of McKees
Rocks. Burial in Robinson's Run cemetery.
Services for Robert M. DAVISON, 65, of 5* Standish boulevard, Pittsburgh,
who died Tuesday, March 22, 1943 after having been injured in an automobile
accident were held Saturday afternoon at the Beinhauer mortuary, West
Liberty avenue. Burial was in Allegheny County Memorial park.
Born in Ireland, he came to Pittsburgh when he was 19 years old. He was a
master mechanic at the Jones & Laughlin Steel Corp. until 1933 when he
organized and became president of the D. & D. Manufacturing co.
During World War I, he helped build the Aetna Chemical plant at Oakdale and
was one of the survivors of the explosion that killed 70 employees. The
family resided at the foot of Valley street, McDonald, for a number of
years.
He was a member of Hailman Lodge 321, F &AM; Masonic Veterans association,
Tane(c)red comandery, Knights Templar, and the First Presbyterian church of
Pittsburgh.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Mary CRUMP DAVISON; four daughters: Mrs.
Elizabeth D. KAPPLER, Mrs. Kathryn DUFF CURRY; Mrs. Dorothy D. KILPATRICK
and Miss Elsie M. DAVISON; three sons: Richard C., Robert M., Jr., and Navy
Lt. William B. DAVISON; two brothers: Joseph of New Zealand and Samuel of
Ireland, and three sisters: Anna May, and Sarah, all of Ireland.
Among those from this locality who paid their last respects to the deceased
were Miss Nell and Miss Florence STEVENSON of Valley street.
Samuel Alexander DAVIDSON, 76, of Hickory died at 7 p.m., Wednesday, March
31, 1943, in the Washington hospital, where he had been a patient for two
weeks following a heart attack suffered in his home.
Mr. DAVIDSON was born October 30, 1865, near Buffalo village, a son of
Samuel Alexander and Roseanna LAWTON DAVIDSON.
His entire life was spent in Hopewell and Mt. Pleasant townships, where he
followed farming. Due to failing health, Mr. DAVIDSON retired a number of
years ago to make his home in Hickory.
Mr. DAVIDSON was a member of the Mt. Pleasant United Presbyterian church of
Hickory and of the Knights of Pythias of Hickory.
On November 17, 1892, Mr. DAVIDSON was united in marriage with Miss Anna
Mary ROBERTSON and the couple observed their 50th wedding anniversary last
fall.
Mr. DAVIDSON leaves wife; a son, Dr. Ralph DAVIDSON of Burgettstown, a
daughter, Mrs. Carl BAUMANN of Rutherford Acres, Bridgeville R. D.: a
granddaughter Mrs. Paul BRANNAN of R. D. 1, Bulger, a brother, David
DAVIDSON of Washington, and two sisters, Mrs. Jessie JONES of near Gretna
and Mrs. Mary MCELROY of Buffalo. A son John was killed instantly in 1918
in an explosion at the Aetna Chemical plant at Oakdale.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon in the Hickory United
Presbyterian church, conducted by the Rev. Cornelius S. THOMAS of the Mt.
Prospect Presbyterian church. Burial will be in the Buffalo cemetery.
