But my ancestors lived back then. I think it's very relevant to be able to
understand the times when someone I am researching lived, otherwise, it would
be just collecting a bunch of names and dates. I like to think of these people
as human beings. They were my family, and just like today, I make an effort
to understand the feelings of my parents, or even my siblings, even when I
disagree with them. I'd like to think that if we had lived at the same time,
we'd all love each other just like my family does now, and in order to love and
understand someone, you need to know what their life was like.
