Mt. Pleasant Township Schools
The school board of Mt. Pleasant township met at the schoolhouse in Hickory
Thursday of last week and elected teachers for the school of the township
together with a principal for the High School, who will also have
supervision of the township schools. The High School teacher is employed
for the year at $1,200. The terms in the graded schools will be seven
months while in the High School it will be eight and ½ months. The county
schools will open on August 31, while the High School will open one week
later.
One new room will be added to the Westland school building. The contract
for its construction was let for $1,350. The room will be 24x48 and will
have a slate roof. No music teacher was elected Thursday as a suitable
applicant could not be secured. J. A. ALLINDER was elected truant officer.
Miss Romaine RUSSELL was elected assistant teacher in the High School at a
salary of $60 per month.
The tax levy of the township is two and one-half mills, the half mill being
for building purposes. The teachers were graded according to experience.
Three teachers will receive $45, two $50 and ten $55.
Following are the teachers elected: Moore's, A. D. MCCARRELL; Cockins, W.
R. BROWN; George, advanced, M. M. TODD, primary, Primrose, Sylvester
BROSIUS; Cherry Valley, Clara GLASS; Rankin, Jennie PATTERSON; McCarrells,
Anna ROSS; Millers, Miss PAXTON; Donaldson, Cora MCALISTER; Hickory,
advanced, Ida SMITH, primary, Sybella RANKIN; Westland, advanced, Harry
COUCH, No 1, Ula DEED, No. 2, Anna BRISTAIN.
