I purchased a spiral bound (Signature) Note Manager (size 8 1/2x11). I used adhesive tabs to divide the book into common research locations (i.e. Uniontown Library, Connellsville Library, Fayette Co. Courthouse, Westmoreland Co. Courthouse, etc.)
When I come across something that needs to be looked up, I make a note of it in my notebook. If I need to look for an obit. on film at the Uniontown Library, I'll go to that section of the book and make a note such as this one: John Doe; Fairchance; obit; 2-2-1920.

This gives me the name, where he lived, what source I need, and the date of death. At any given time, all I have to do is grab my book and take off. I highlight the note if I find it to keep track. I keep all the used pages in the notebook and this saves me from finding doubles or looking for something I was not able to find at a previous time. Works great for me.
