Patrick,
The Paynes that Elaine is speaking of is my line and wander if any of those Paynes that you are working on will be connected to any of these?
I saw the chart but didn't see any that looked like Elaines line. Maybe you did see a connection. If so I will surely want to get in on the next DNA study.

Subject: [PAYNE-Pre1700] Re: The Payne Study
Hi, Patrick, I have enjoyed reading about the study, and I have a question
about my husband's line, and where you think it might fit in. I submitted
this thesis several years ago on the Payne/Paine Listserver, and i have not
been active on the List lately.
Group 2 from the Paynes of Virginia
1. John Payne.will 1668 of Cople, Westmoreland Co, VA..Wife Millicent and
children John, James, and Elizabeth.
2. Son John Paynewill 1697 Westmoreland Co Wife Elizabeth and sons John
and William
3. Son William Payne born abt. 1685, We Co, VA, and died bef. 1735 in
Hanover Co. VA. He married Elizabeth Poindexter about 1720 in We Co,
daughter of Thomas Poindexter and Sarah Crawford.
Notes for William Payne:
July 1722William began making arrangements to move:
Indenture between William Payne and Francis Aubrey July 25, 1722. For 100
acres, part of a patent granted to John Payne, father to said William Payne,
Jr. and by his last will and testament given to his two sons John Payne and
William Payne, Jr.
July 1723William and wife Elizabeth had moved to Hanover Co, VA:
Know all men by these presents that I Elizabeth Payn, the wife of William
Payn, late of Westmoreland, now of Hanover county have and by these presents
do authorize and impower my trusty and Wel beloved friends Mr. William
Sturman and Mr. John Aubrey, or either of them, to appear at the County Court
of Westmoreland aforesaid and relinquish my right of dower and thirds of in
and unto One hundred acres of land lying in the said county, sold by my said
husband to Mr. Francis Aubrey and for so doing this shall be my Attorneys or
Attorney sufficient Warrant.
Given unto my hand the 26th day of July Anno. Dom. 1723- Elizabeth Payne
(seal) sealed and delivered in the presence of John Poindexter, Sarah
Brechin- Westmoreland Sc. July the 31, 1723. This power of attorney was duely
proved in Open Court by the Oaths of the Witnesses and the dower therein
mentioned relinquished by William Sturmand and admitted to record., and was
entered thereon the eighth day of August, 1723.
Elizabeth was the daughter of Thomas Poindexter and Sarah Crawford. John
Poindexter was her brother and Sarah Brechin was her mother (who had married
again after Thomas died). Elizabeth was married to Ruel Shrewsbury by 1735
when they were admin. and administrx for William's estate.
Interestingly enough, considering you are connecting up some of the Paynes
with Jersey.......
{Elizabeth and her father Thomas Poindexter were documented descendants of
George Poingdestre, who arrived in VA in 1657 from the Isle of Jersey. He and
his wife Susannah first settled in Middle Plantation (Williamsburg) and later
built a home called Criss Cross, which still stands between Wmsburg and
Richmond in St. Peter's Parish. The Poindexters have a traceable family
history on Jersey as far back as 1250AD and George was a descendent of the
Seigneur of Jersey.)
I have no proof of who comes next after William and Elizabeth , but I firmly
believe it to be William and Thomas Payne of Halifax co. We are documented
up to William and Thomas. Thomas' sons are named Poindexter and Shrewsbury,
which is just too much of a coincidence.
Thank you, Elaine Paine
