Hello Nelson!

You inquired about scanners and how they would be
used in genealogical research... I have been
blessed to have been both the receipient and
sender of old family photos that otherwise would
have been difficult to share had not my distant
cousins and I both owned scanners. While I have
had some difficulty scanning documents (now I scan
them as bmp.s) the benefits of owning a scanner
have ,for me, been great! Ultimately, only you
can determine if one is right for you but I would
recommend one as a great way of sharing photos as
well as preserving them. I also recently restored
an old damaged photo which a cousin sent me. The
program I used was Kai's Photo Soap which is very
easy to use and yields very good results. There
are much more expensive programs out there that do
the same thing (Adobe Photoshop comes to mind...)
but Kai's is great for the non-professional.

Hope my input is useful.

Regards to all on the list!
