Subject: "Agreements" in Land Conveyance Records
Date: Sun, 07 Oct 2001 11:17:51 EDT
Greetings all!
I have been going through some Land Conveyance Records searching for clues as to the parents of my gg-grandmother, Barbara MCLEAN. (Mother's surname MCCALDER) I will pass this along just for general information that might benefit someone else. (Probably nothing new for many researchers but might be a new slant for some of us beginners.)
Many entries in the index for the Land Conveyance Records just say "Agreements". I am guessing there is a wide variety as to what these documents may actually hold. I took a look at an example of one and it was an agreement to sell some land to a certain young man IF he married the daughter of the land-owner! That opens up a new range of records that may hold family information.
Does anyone else have other examples of what "Agreements" may contain?
Cheers!
