SURNAMES in Allegheny Co, PA are: COOK, KALLENBAUGH, GERSTNER, BEPLER,
BARCLAY, PETRIE, DRURY, TRENARY, APPLEBY; ROBERTSYOHE, MC ELWAIN.
I most urgently would like help to find records about or other descendants of
my great grandfather COOK who lived in Allegheny County, Allegheny River
Valley, Natrona or Tarentum area in the 1860-1870's. He was born in Germany,
perhaps Bavaria. His first name may be George.
My father, Charles Lawrence Cook and mother Marion Gerstner left their
parents in Pittsburgh and moved to Houston, TX before I was born. I never
knew any of my relatives in PA until I started trying to locate them for my
family history. I had help from my cousin George McKee of Mt. Troy, Reserve
Twp, Pittsburgh, PA on the research for our Gerstner and Bepler families.
With some professional help in Austria I was able to get my Gerstner line
back to the 1500's to a german village near what is now Prague. I wrote
letters to Beplers in the Giessen, Hesse, Germany area and hit the jackpot.
When I went to Germany 3 years ago they had my bound family history, and
village history ready for me.
It is my Cooks that are the biggest problem. The Mary Ellen Poorman I wrote
you about, who was the dau of Jacob Poorman in Westmoreland Co, PA married
Stephen Alexander Drury in Blairsville, Indiana Co, PA in 1837. Their dau,
Martha Jane Drury married James Marshall Trenary in Tarentum, PA. Their dau
was Mary Ellen Trenary who married my grandfather Charles Alexander Cook, b
1864 in Tarentum or Natrona, Allegheny Co, PA. So, that is where I am stuck.
I can't identify the father of Charles for sure. Of the several Cook
families in East Deer and Harrison Twp of Allegheny County for 1850, 1860,
1870, 1880; I find two possible fathers for Charles, but no proofs.
