Joan,
In answer to your inquiry of the parentage of Elijah Pennington, there is a
book
entitled "Earliest Settlers-Western Frederick Eastern Hampshire Counties in
Virginia, their descendants" by Grace Garner. The Pennington Family section
gives the ancestors of Elijah as follows:
Edward Pennington m. Sarah Jennings Nov. 1, 1699
son: Isaac Pennington b. Sept. 22, 170?
Isaac Pennington m. Ann Biles 1724
children: Edward Pennington b. Oct.4, 1725 m. Sarah Shoemaker Nov. 26, 1754
Mary b. April 5, 1732
Sarah b. April 10, 1734
Thomas b. Feb. 1, 1738
There was no further mention of whom Thomas married but suggested that he
probably wandered away from the Quaker faith and could not be found in their
records. Thomas had two sons: Elijah b. about 1758 or 1759 and William
born within a year or two before or after Elijah. Both Elijah and William
enlisted
from Dover in Delaware and served in the Revolution. Elijah married Elizabeth
Schreid and went to Ohio.
If you can find that book in your library there is more detail on Elijah.
Sources
given for this information were Hinshaw's Quaker Records and #172, Bucks
County, Penn. Wills.
I am looking for the parentage of Thomas Pennington who I descend from and
am looking for further information on Elijah's brother William. If this is
your
Elijah, and the information printed in this book can be verified, you will be
able to trace your ancestry back to Sir Isaac Penington, Mayor of London. If
you need further information on this, let me know.
Joanne
