John W. Pennington born 1835, Lawrence County, Tennessee, married Eliza F.
Stephenson 3/29/1856. Eliza born 1842. Two children, Lillie C. born 1857 in
TN., died before May 1914 according to letter from her brother's wife, &
William C. born 1862 in Newton County, AR., died 5/4/1914 in Birmingham, AL.
Eliza died 1862.

1860 Newton County Census- John Pennington (head)- M.D., 26, born in Tenn.;
Eliza, 18, born in Tenn.; Lillie, 3, born in Tenn. Polk Township, Garland
Post Office.

Arkansas Dammed Yankees- An index to Union Soldiers in Arkansas Regiments-
Soldier Pennington, John W., Enlisted 10/18/1863 at Pope County, AR., age
28,
birthplace Lawrence County, TN., Unit 3rd AR. Calvary, Company A, Rank 1st
Lieutenant. Discharge 8/20/1865, Rank Quarter Master Sergeant?
Married Mary Amanda Huffstetler, daughter of Harley Barry Huffstetler &
Rachel Costner, 8/5/1866 & 9/20/1869 from "Courier Democrat" article dated
12/30/1909 about Mary's marriages. I also have her obituary from paper.
Mary was first married to James Franklin May on 5/6/1860, died in Civil War.
They had one son, James Henry May, born 11/13/1863 in AR., died 10/25/1901
in
Pope County, AR.

Mary & John had three children, My grandfather, John Barry Pennington, born
8/17/ 1867 in Pope County, AR., married Amanda Vanturah Ward, 11/25/1896 in
Ward home in Fort Smith, AR. John died 1/20/1938 in St. Louis, MO. & is
buried there in Lake Charles Cemetery.
Mary Elizabeth Pennington, born 10/19/1869 in AR., married Samuel Newton
Martin 12/21/1892. She died 5/20/1956 in Atkins, AR.
Eliza Elimra Pennington, born 11/13/1871 in Pottsville, AR., married Lowell
Franklin McClain. She died 9/4/1962 in LA., buried in Newellton, LA., Legion
Memorial Cemetery.
