I sure didn't mean to put anyone on the defensive. I was merely asking for help because of the errors others have made. Please accept my apologies for not being "more tactful". To those of you who supported and understood what I was trying to convey...I thank you. I did receive a response from another cousin who not only expressed his same experience, but also asked for my assistance with his family, which I am more than happy to do. I did not get his permission to copy his letter to the list, so I won't say who it was from. However, I would like to share just a small excerpt of his letter with you:
I am in total agreement with you on the idea of making sure that all information is accurate before it is made public.
Some time back, someone took the liberty of putting my GGfather Wilson into a website and making him the son of Simeon Pennington, it appeared in the Pennington website, I tried to get it changed, to no avail. And I think it may still be out there. And sadly there is not one shred of evidence to support it.
AS I re read your letter, it appears that you may be searching for a person muuch older than the ones mentioned here.
Would enjoy hearing from you and hearing your ideas on how to sort this out. Anyways, thanks for any and all help.
Again, I apologize for the upset.

I believe that this Pennington Mailing List is to exchange family
information and solve mysteries with each other. It is this type of comment
and activity that makes our wonderful hobby VERY unpleasant and frustrating.

Hi Lisa,
I don't think that Dianne's comment should be taken literally. I think
she was just making her frustration known commenting about some of the
WorldConnect information.
We, as seasoned researchers know there are alot of family tress in
cyberspace some correct and some otherwise. But we need to let these new
people on our lists know, to be careful with the online family trees.
I can not think of one Pennington cousin, that is not serious about
their research, finding sources and being as diligent to detail as possible
and sharing with others. That is one of the reasons, I use the mailing list
so often. One of our Pennington cousins out there will either point a finger
or give their advice to get me in the right direction.
I hope this explaination will help others to remember that we are
trying to achieve the same thing - excellent family history. And 'how we
express our frustration' is just as important as what our questions are.
I hope this "bandaid" helps alittle. Have a good weekend.

Hi All-
I personally was not offended by Dianne's post. I think that she is only
looking for answers and HELP and has been frustrated by all the junk
genealogy on the internet.
Rather than chastising her for her lack of tactful communication, (I
also have been accused of "lack of tact") how about someone helping out?
Just a thought-
She also wrote:

I would help if I could but cannot-

I too would help on Joshua. What a refreshing name to follow. It sure beats
all of the Williams and John we have in our family group.
Hang in there Dianne!
