Sara,

Your post (18 Sep) regarding Caleb Penny & Polly Sturdivant is a good place
to start on organizing our differences.

As to the two birth dates for Caleb, these are two different people in my
file -- one, b 1789, is son of Caleb & Sarah and the other b. 1793, is son
of James who d. 1803.

Regarding the children of Caleb & Polly Sturdivant, I have Sarah, m. 24 Jan
1834, John C. Avera; James, b. 1817, m. Mary Jane Wood; and Mary, m. 7 Aug
1846, William David Wood. I do not have a Martha "Patsy" in my file.

The others you listed were the children of Caleb, b. 1789, who m. 2nd
Fannie A. Smith. Note your 1850 Johnston C. census list in the same post.

The children of Caleb, b. 1789, as I have them,
were:
1. Reuben d. young.
2. Simon d. young.
3. Joseph who lived next door to his father in 1850, m. Cynthia Turner.
Their children were Augustin Caleb, Elizabeth, Sue, Laura and Ransom.
Augustin Caleb was named for his two grandfathers -- Augustin Turner and
Caleb Penny. Augustin Caleb was wife's grandfather.
4. Seth m. Mary C. Byrd and had 8 children.
5. Caleb, Jr. m. Sally Powell and had 2 children.
6. Daniel was killed in the Civil War.
7. Mary
8. David was killed in the Civil War.
9. Ransom, b. 1843, m. Sarah Henrietta Adams and had 10 children.
10. Lisa, b. 1845, m. Sam Surles.
11. Frances, b. 1849, m. Richard Byrd and had 8 children.
12. Sam Penny

Returning to the other Caleb, b. 1793,

James Penny, b. 181, m. Mary Jane Wood and had 11 children. I have a lot
of data on this family including information about some of their lives so I
feel fairly confident about it. I have had this James Penny data for a
long time - 10-15 years - and I haven't tracked down the original
correspondence but I am sure it came from a descendant, Geneva Davis, of
Raleigh.

This is a start to sorting out our data.

Anybody - Comments?? Questions??
