The following excerpt is from an article written by Eppie Charles
POWELL, M.D. Polly TURNER PENNY was his great grandmother.

"John TURNER, son of Simon TURNER, m 22 Dec. 1796 Mary "Polly" AVERA,
dau of Thomas and Mary AVERA."

"John's will, filed in Johnston Co. named as heirs the following: son,
David TURNER, dau Sally BAUCOM, son Thomas TURNER, dau Polly PENNY, dau
Winifred FERRELL and 'my beloved wife, Polly TURNER'. "

"John TURNER's daughter, Mary "Polly" was married to Caleb PENNY, son of
Caleb PENNY and grandson of Edward PENNY who came to North Carolina from
Virginia."

Caleb PENNY and "Polly TURNER PENNY's daughter, Martha "Patsy", was the
first wife of William Sturdivant POWELL, the son of Kedar POWELL and
Sarah "Sallie" STURDIVANT. They were married 16 October 1844. They had
the following children: Sarah, b. 1846, Thomas, b.1847,died young; Mary,
b. 1849; Eppie P., b. 1850, Upton C. b. 1853; Martha A., b. 1858;
Nathan, b. 1860; William, b. 1862; and Guston, b. 1864. Patsy PENNY
POWELL died between 1864 and 1870. In 1874, these children inherited
land from her (Polly's) unmarried uncle, David TURNER."
