Hi,
I'm new to the list. The most recent Penny in my husband's family was
his fourth great grandmother, Mary Penny. She married Joel Doss in 1796
in Lincoln Co., NC. She died sometime after 1831, probably in Greene
Co. or Tuscaloosa Co., Ala., where her children lived.

Her father was William Penny. His will was probated in Oct. 1818 in
Lincoln Co. I do not know when or where he was born. He had a wife who
died after giving him 8 children, then he married Abigail Bryant in 1798
and may or may not have had more children. The will abstract is a
little ambiguous there.

His mother's name was Elizabeth. I have a copy of her will, which
refers to him, and also to Alexander, Mary, and Margaret, wife of
Archibald Houston. I think they also lived in Mecklenburg Co., NC.
I don't know if they moved or the county boundaries moved.

There is a deed referring to a John and Margaret Penny in 1769 in Meck.
Co., but I don't know what relationship they are to William.
Also one in 1774, "William Penny and wife Elizabeth of Meck.".
Since I don't know when he was born it's hard to tell if this is him or
a relative.
