Hi,
I found this in "Mecklenburg Co., NC. Deed Abstracts, 1763-1779", on
page 120:
"p. 518-519: 10 Sept. 1769, John PENNY and wf Margaret of Meck., to
Martin FIFER of same, for 128 pounds S 16 proc. money, 150 A on English
Buffalow Creek, a branch of Rocky or Johnston River..
John PENNY (Seal), Margrt PENNEY (sic)(Seal). Wit:Archibald HOUSTON,
Peter JOHNSTON, James REES. Prov. Oct. term 1769."
My note - I have a will by Elizabeth Penny written in 1775 which
indicates that she has sons John and William and a daughter Margaret who
was married to Archibald Houston. The will also mentions that John
Penny's wife is Margaret Martin, daughter of Mary Martin. I believe the
William Penny mentioned in the will is the father of Mary Penny Doss.
The Mecklenburg and Lincoln Co. borders were in a lot of flux at that
time.
Please feel free to comment if you think my conclusions are wrong.
Regards,
Lise
