Dear Listers:

It is a goal of mine this year to not only write as much as I can about my
own personal history but to also keep a journal of the year. I find I can
accomplish both using Personal Historian.

An easy way is to just click on the "Calendar" icon on the cross bar next to
the "hat". It will bring up a new page entitiled "Journal Entry" with
today's date.

However, I have so much in my personal history that I wanted a new project
to keep my journal in. I can put it into my life story later when the time
comes.

1. I went into Personal Historian, clicked on "New Project" and named it
"June's Journal".

2. The program then said it would take me through the steps of setting up a
new personal history project. I clicked "Next"

3. When the program asked me who the history was about, I clicked "Myself"
and "next"

4.The program then asked me if I wanted to import any genealogy information.
I clicked "No, Thanks" Then I clicked "next"

5. The next window asked about my information. I entered my name and the
other information and clicked "next."

6. The next window opened and asked if I wanted any import of Life Capsules.
I marked "no" then clicked "next"

7. The program then told me that I was ready to write.

Now each day I open the project titled June's Journal and click on "Topics"
on the very top bar and chose " Add Journal Entry" Personal Historian will
automatically bring up a new page with today's date on it.

If you should want to go write an entry for another date, then just type in
the date you want and it will automatically fill in the day of the week.

I now write what I want to below in the composer box. If I only have time
for brainstormed notes, then I would put them in the organizer box, or if I
want to get something imported from another source, I would leave a reminder
in the organizer to get it.

I can easily import pictures later that I may have taken with either my film
camera by scanning them, or by importing pictures from my digital camera.

And I can go to the local newpaper on-line and cut and paste any information
that I would like to include on that day.. namely, I can think of obituaries
of people I might like to comment on. :-)

So, not only am I reaching back by writing about past experiences, I am
writing a current history with my daily journaling, and I will have very
fresh memories of the current event.

Happy Writing!

June
