Some of you are likely wondering why the fuss about 1885 Certs.

Well please take a look with me at :

Marriage 1855/351/8 Parish of Errol, Perthshire

When, where and How Married :
On August Tweny-Seventh Married (After Banns)
according to the Rites and Ceremonies of
the United Presbyterian Church.

Signatures of the Parties :

The POWRIE link :

Now a few days later on 13 Sep 1855 a son was born and named John
and the register shows his mother as :
Ann TAIT, formerly POWRIE, Maiden Surname MITCHELL

The IGI shows the marriage of Peter POWRIE & Ann MITCHELL took place in 1844;
and the BIRTH of two of their children Agnes 1850 & Margaret 1852.

The 1855 Death Register entry 1855/351/17 shows the death of their son John
POWRIE age 10.

I hope the 1851 census will show the missing POWRIE children;
and confirm which Peter POWRIE was Ann's first husband<Grin>.

The MITCHELL side :

The birth or baptism of
Ann MITCHELL d/o of Joseph MITCHELL & Betsy PATERSON
does not appear in the IGI.
Nor does Ann appear in the 1842 Census at Errol;
although her parents do.

Joseph MITCHELL married Elizabeth PATERSON in 1811
and the 1841 Census shows them as age 45 born in county
so born 1790-1795 ( because ages were rounded down ).

The IGI shows only 2 children Thomas 1811 & John 1816
both in Errol, obviously there were others.

It is sad that Betsy died before 1855 because she may be one of my wife's
many Errol relatives; but proof is lacking<Grin>.

Anyone researching the TAIT family of Errol ??
Will have to cover in another message.
