Jan,
Bad news, perhaps.
The Wm. WIGGONS that had a city lot per the 1684 Philly Map-- that
might be the only ref. to him.
In the main index there is one WIGGAN, William WIGGAN (with an A,
without the S)...
I. From "Penn's Colony, Vol. I; Passengers & Ships"; Welcome Society Pub. 1,
compiled by Water Lee Sheppard, Jr. (Baltimore: Genelogical Pub. Co.; 1970)
From the Index:
WIGGAN, William, 205
p. 205 [Ch., "The First Purchasers of Pennsylvania"]
"William WIGGAN (of Westminster, Perfumer) ..... 500 Acres
II. From "The Papers of William Penn; Vol. Two" by Dunn & Dunn (Phila.: Univ.
of Penna. Press; 1986)
pp. 639, 664 [Ch., "205. The First Purchasers of Pennsylvania, 1681-1685"]
no WIGGAN/WIGGON(S)/WIGGIN/WIGGEN listed
III. From "The Papers of William Penn; Vol. Three" by Dunn & Dunn (Phila.:
Univ. of Penna. Press; 1986)
pp. 643-654 [Ch., "210. A Map of the Improved Part of the Province of
Pennsilvania in America, 1687"]
WIGGIN, William, 22D-- in Bucks Co., across Neshameneh Cr. from Lawrence &
Joseph GROWDEN, Neshameneh Cr. is the western border, on lot with
Francis DOVE & Edward SAMWAY.
pp. 679-735 [Ch., "215. The Blackwell Rent Roll, 1689-1690"]
SAMWAYS, Edward-- is cited as having been an "Old Puschaser" {meaning he
purchased it in England before immigration} of a city lot, 51' frontage.
DOVE, Francis-- "see James ATKINSON";
WIGGEN, William-- "see BROWN, Joseph" {We've already seen that William
WIGGONS was a F.P. of 500 acre and had a city lot in 1684};
BROWNE, Joseph-- "from ATKINSON, James; originally from Wiggin, William"
Joseph BROWNE is cited as having purchased a city lot, 40' frontage,
sometime before 1689-90;
ATKINSON, James-- "from DOVE, Francis; s.a. BROWN, JOSEPH & LLOYD, Thomas"
James ATKINSON is cited as having been an "Old Purchaser" of a city lot,
51' frontage
I am no expert on land transactions...
I am told that whenever, someone purchased acreage in England, as William
WIGGAN did (500 acres-- see p.205 above) they were customarily granted a
land warrent for a city lot-- thus Wm. WIGGONS had the city lot in 1684.
It's confusing-- WIGGONS is the only one of the five that was a F.P. of
acreage... SAMWAY, DOVE & WIGGONS or on the 1687 Map as having acreage in
Bucks Co.... BROWNE had a city lot by 1689-90... BROWN got his from
ATKINSON, who got his from DOVE... DOVE never purchased anything
