Hello-

This is my first post to your list, however, I am a subscriber to the
Rowanroots-L (Rowan Co. NC) and have received some valuable information on the
NC EATON's from people on that list. It has been a wonderful, informative
resouce, and I'm sure your list is, as well.

I am researching the line of John and Joan EATON, who came to Philadelphia in
abt. 1683 from Wales. According to information I have been given by others
and books I have read on the Eatons of NC, MO and IL, John and Joan are the
beginnings of our line. John had a son, Rev. George Eaton, who was a Baptist
minister in Montgomery Co. and the Phila. area. George had a son, John b.
1716, who went to Rowan Co. NC and died there in 1789. From this John came my
anscestors, Isaac, Abraham, Lazarus, and on (I will not bore all readers with
the entire lineage!) Of course, the Philadelphia EATON's had other children
besides the ones I listed for the NC lineage- and that is where this list
becomes of interest to me. I would like to know if other Eaton's from this
line are still in the area or if anyone is familiar with this line. Some of
the links, ie., the link between the John who went to NC and his supposed
father, Rev. George Eaton are based on circumstantial evidence (albeit pretty
strong cir. evidence.) A family member closer to the source (Philadelphia)
might have a family tradition or other evidence that would clarify this
matter. I have looked at Nellie Molyneux's book on the EATON families, but
have been unable to find a library willing to loan it, via ILL, to my local
library. It's not a book one can digest in one afternoon (almost 800 pp.!)

Also, I wondered if a local historian could give me a bit of information on
the Pennypack Church and the community it was in. On my 1997 Atlas, it looks
as if this area is in the NE part of your county. Is there history of any
interest written about this area that would help me research(perhaps actually
availabe through Interlibrary loan)? Was this mainly a Welsh community? Was
there a historical reason for several members of this community to move to the
Welsh Tract at Ironhill, New Castle, DE between 1700 and 1713?

I believe I have asked enough questions. I would be grateful for any
information available.

Thank you,

Cathey
Blacksburg, VA
