My father and uncles were members of the Holy Name Society here in Penns Grove
NJ. It was a fraternal society that as I remember was responsible for the
annual clambakes (and probably other fundraising activities for the parish).
One of the priests was the moderator and spiritual advisor. They usually had
an Annual Communion Breakfast (Mass + speaker+ breakfast). In some places,
such as Newark NJ, they held an annual parade, probably in the 1950s.
My mother belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society, did a turn as president.
The women took care of the altar linens, sometimes had speakers at monthly
meetings.
Hope this helps.
