Gene, last night I said (questions below)...
>I realized tonight the 2 1777 MASON tract I had located on
>Germantown Ave. (.5 & 2.5 mi. west of the Germantown Ave./
>Frankford Ave. intersection (Philly)-- both were on the land
>owned in 1682 by Griffith JONES.
But that's not exactly true. As you formerly informed me, the
Wingohocking & Frankford Crs. were the northern border of Northern
Liberties Twp. (as it was in 1790)-- however the 1682 Griffith
JONES tract lay immediately north of Wingohocking Cr. (sandwiched
between the Wingohocking & Frankfort Crs., while the 1777 MASON
tracts lay .8 & 1.3 mi. south of that Cr.-- clearly in Northern
Liberties Twp.
Thus it is accurate to say the 1682 Griffith JONES tract merely
lay near what was to become Northern Liberties Twp.
At what time was Northern Liberties Twp. formed?
Was the area north of Wingohocking Cr. named?
BTW, the area that was the Griffith JONES tract in 1682-- the names
PHILIPS & GRIFFITHS are there on the 1777 Map (and to the extreme
east of that area (near the Wingohocking/Frankfort Cr. fork) is
BURLYS Mill).
