Nixon St. no longer exists, its name has been changed.
There are 2 Churches, Church Lane in Germantown and Church St. in
Frankford. None of these are near Spring Garden.

I think that Nixon was in Germantown. If I remember, I will check
tonight when I get home.

Germantown would be consistent with an Irish immigrant at that time.

Dear Nancy, Gene, and the Philly Roots list:

Just got my package of city directory copies from Gene today. Thanks very
much, Gene.

The interesting part of this was two years of Jane Armstrong listed in 1850
and 1851 (no other years had her, so this is consistent with what I already
have of her life story so far) with my Irish born gggrandmother's name. If
she was actually 18-20 years old she would have been a very young widow
indeed, but it is not outside of the realm of possibility. Her address was,
quite simply:

Armstrong, Jane, widow, Church & Nixon

Where does this address stand in relation to the Spring Garden neighborhood
and the HOUSE OF REFUGE? Would it also be close to 1224 Westside 18th St?

Please help! Thanks! - Tim Walls
