Subject: [PHILLY-ROOTS-L] CARLIN/DEVLIN/HARTRINE 1860 Census
Date: Sat, 01 Jan 2000 10:34:35 PST
Wasn't someone on the list looking for the name CARLIN?
I copied a page from the 1860 Census and there are two Carlins living with a
DEVLIN family:
On page 153 Ward #2, Roll #1152, lines 35-38, dated June 16th 1860, an
Edward G. CARLIN, Ass't Marshall was the census taker.
Dwelling 1078, Family #1173:
Margaret DEVLIN - 45 - no occupation listed, value of personal estate $200,
birthplace PA
James DEVLIN - 20 - no occupation listed, birthplace PA
Rosannah CARLIN - 47 - tailor - birthplace PA
John CARLIN - 20 - laborer - birthplace PA
Under their names two people are listed with a different family number -
1174 but there is no dwelling number listed. Does this mean they lived in
the same home but weren't family? Or could it be an oversight by the census
taker? They are the last two listed on this page - there could be more on
page 154 but I don't have that copy.
William HARTRINE - 80 - Val of estate - $100 - birthplace PA
Mary - 60 - birthplace PA
Hope this helps someone.
Peggy
