Subject: [PHILLY-ROOTS-L] My New Discovery -- NICOLAS DEROUSSE

I just had to mention this to all of you, since a number of you were
involved. Several from Philly-Roots (you know who you are), and two
from the Camden County Historical Society in NJ. The family line of
DeRousse crossed from Alsace-Lorraine, France, into Philadelphia,
where most of the children of George, the immigrant, remained in their
lifetimes, and, with the special exception of one, Louis Theodore
DeRousse (active historian, politician, businessman, benefactor, and
many other things) who migrated to Camden, NJ, where he married into
my Fitzgerald family.
I received a lovely package from the Camden County Historical Society.
Therein was a collection of papers, including George DeRousse's birth
date and signature facsimile. The region of birth was included!
Saralbe (now Sarralbe) departement de Moselle, France. So I joined
the email list for Alsace-Lorraine, on Rootsweb.
It is a great group! One person saw my post. They said, 'No birth
at that time in Saralbe.' So I asked if there was anything he could
do. ***Next day*** he came back to me and said that the date was
just slightly off. He sent me a scan, JPEG, of the registry of the
birth of George! It lists the PARENTS, DATE, WITNESSES, RECORDER,
SIGNATURE OF THE FATHER! Perhaps subtle tidbits I have not yet
grasped, in addition.
Now, World, hear this: The father of George DeRousse was Nicolas
Derousse. His mother was Marie Moreau (last letter was at the worn
edge of the page, unfortunately, but it appears fairly certain that
this was the name) DeRousse. He was born in the third year of the
Republic, on the twenty-third day of (an old French word is used
here) February, 1795.
Now if anyone searches the archives, they will know. As long as the
Rootsweb Archives exists, at any rate. I will send a scan of the
page to anyone who wants one (now don't all rush out at once ":O>) )
and so, I have come to the end of this letter. You can now breathe!
Thanks all, and this is great. My first discovery ACROSS the big
water.
