The baptismal record is probably a reliable source. However, if it's
correct, that the birth took place in 1859, then both of your possible men
are eliminated because neither was here in 1859, unless (1) the birth took
place on the ship in 1859 but the ship didn't arrive in Philly until 1860, or
(2) the father wasn't present when the child was born, i.e. the child was
born in 1859 and the father arrived in 1860.
Factor in all of the mistakes in records and I know your frustration. Best
