The Knights of Pythias did not start Greenwood Cemetery. The only
connection was that Wilbur Myers, the man who started Greenwood
Cemetery, was a member of the Knights of Pythias. Further, I am told
by the Knights of Pythias that they have the minutes of a meeting
where Wilbur Myers asked for permission to use the name of the
fraternal organization on his cemetery and was told "no." However,
he did it anyway. The Knights of Pythias, understandably, are not
happy.
As far as I know, the Knights of Pythias are not a Catholic
organization. Some of my family were members of the Knights of
Pythias and we are not Catholic.
Were I to speculate further, it would seem that when my family needed
to sell their farm, which already had a small family graveyard on it,
they would feel that selling to a fellow lodge member who wanted to
start a cemetery would be a Good Thing. However, we're all really
sorry now because it turned out to be a Bad Thing.
