If the records you seek are within the 20th century, the central library
of the school district may have yearbooks containing pictures, club
memberships, athletic activities, class officers, and awards. Prior to
WW1 and again during the Great Depression, many students dropped out of
school at age 16, so you should first look for the yearbook published in
the student's freshman year and progress from there.
Does anyone know how long the State Department of Education requires
transcripts of students' grades to be kept? Also, when were transcripts
put on microfilm? I doubt that you are interested in your ancestor's
grades, but the classes in which he or she earned credits should give
you some idea of his or her interests.
