Subject: [PHILLY-ROOTS-L] 1930 Census Preparations
Date: Tue, 02 Oct 2001 19:09:40 +0000
A recent posting reminded me of how close we are to the 1930 federal census
release (April 2002, I believe).
A question: does anyone know definitively if the 1930 census was indexed
(soundexed)?
Some ideas for pre-release preparations (especially if it is not indexed, as
I have heard):
- The Philly Archives has a great resource for finding where your people
lived. The 1929 voter registration list is, I believe, reverse indexed.
That is, listed by (surname/first name) and by address (block by block).
It's a fragile book, and a lot of us need to use it, so ask nicely, and
handle with care.
- It's a good time to check Phila city directories for 1929-1930 addresses.
