Subject: [PHILLY-ROOTS-L] Thanks to Judith and a Letter Arrived WEATHERLY

First, a note to Judith, and then a marvelous package of WEATHERLY
"stuff" arrives from Hawaii!...
You have both found another individual for me (yes!) and clarified a
bit of what was happening. Thanks, Judith. And you got it all right.
As for the simple name Lawson, Helen had that for a middle name, as
did Joseph. Although there was a bit of a mixup, I have a church
paper that indicates Helen Lawson Weatherly was actually born July
28, 1879. So it is, in fact, she. The census claims August, but
that must be charged to simple rounding, I think.
This family *is* tough. Just as you say! They may have even skipped
briefly to NY. This is a new conclusion I am beginning to come to. I
have reasons to think for possibly as little as part of a year, they
may have been in NY. Possibly more. Then returned to remain in PA
the rest of their lives. So far, with little solid evidence, it is
merely a good supposition.
Thanks for doing this for me...
Vince
As for the package from Hawaii! It contains photos of an actual
David Weatherly Clock, owned by Susan Trumbull. It also has an article
briefly mentioning an historical rebuilt clock in Washington, the
rebuilding of which was accomplished by David Weatherly.
Now David was not shy, folks (do I have some of those genes?) and so
he plastered his name big and bold clear across the clock, in the form
of
DAVID WEATHERLY of PHILADELPHIA
I will send the excerpt about it to Cyndie Enfinger later. (I also have
some marriages to post, but that is a separate matter...)
Does anyone have access to this book, who could do a very nice scan of
a photo for me?
"Pennsylvania Clocks and Clockmakers - An Epic of Early American
Science and Industry and Craftsmanship." by George H. Eckhardt
On Page 146 is the rebuilt Weatherly Clock. I have a folded photocopy
I scanned, but it would be really good to get a first-quality scan.
Well, I will "sign off" for now. Those marriages will follow
(compliments of Jane Hamilton who provided the pages).
