The first complete available Irish census year is 1901. 1911 is also
available. The majority of the census for years 1821, 1831, 1841, and 1851
were destroyed during the civil war fighting at the Public Records building in
1922. The census years 1861-1891 were destroyed earlier on purpose by the
British government.

Substitutes are the Tithe Applotment books which varied in different areas
from mid 1820's to mid 1830's. Heads of household only and, in some cases,
land owners only. The Griffith's Valuation also listed heads of household, and
took place between 1848 and 1864.
