Subject: [PHILLY-ROOTS-L] This pretty much sums up TAMS in Philadelphia
Date: Wed, 04 Dec 2002 09:03:08 -0500

The 1880 Online Transcription Philadelphia Census:

George Y. TAMS Self M Male W 45 PA Painter ENG PA
Amelia TAMS Wife M Female W 40 PA Keeps House ENG ENG
Algernon TAMS Son S Male W 20 PA Mill Hand ENG ENG
Elizabeth A. TAMS Dau S Female W 15 PA ENG ENG

George Y. TAMS Son S Male W 7 PA School ENG ENG
Louisa A. TAMS Dau S Female W 1 PA ENG ENG
Edwin TAMS Father M Male W 71 ENG Gentleman ENG ENG
Lydia A. TAMS Mother M Female W 66 PA PA PA
Philadelphia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
FHL Film: 1255180
NA Film: T9-1180
Page No: 164D

Incorporated in this one census are 3 families of TAMS (pretty nearly
all the TAMS of Philadelphia).

I found 2 listings for George TAMS. One, buried at West Laurel Hill
Cemetery (civil war listing...):

Tams, George 1836 2/1/1901 2nd Lt, Co A, 119th PA

and one for the Spanish American War:

TAMS, George Y., Jr., Priv. Co. C; Res. Philadelphia, Pa.;
Enrd. May 18, 1898; M I. May 11, 1898; M. O. with Co. Oct. 26, 1898.

At first, before seeing this census entry, I figured there must be
some error. Now I realize the one was the father, and the other was
the son.

There does appear an S. TAMS and a gentlewoman TAMS in the PCDs,
which may refer to one more, earlier, TAMS generation...

If anyone has further TAMS information, please contact me... but
only if you believe they tie in with these. This is about all I
will be seeking of this line, as they are pretty nearly incidental
to me, rather than of major importance...

Thanks!

Vince Summers
