I just received the Civil war pension record and military service record for
my ancestor, Charles H. Townsend who died at Andersonville Prison in November,
1864. He had a widow, Susannah M. Engle and left two children, Mary Ann
Townsend (1858) and Charles Henry Townsend (July 1864). Names that appear in the
file include:

Rev. George W. Lybrand who provided proof of marriage ( date of marriage:Dec.
1855)
E. H. Bailey, a notary public in Philadelphia (June 1865)
John R. Grigg, Prothonary, Montgomery County, PA (November 1866)
Mary Ann Engle, widow's mother
Susan L. Beyer and Philip Quillman, witnesses to Mary Engle's mark (Nov.
1866)
J. O. Knipe. M.D. of Norristown, attended birth of Charles, gave statement
(Oct. 1866)
Susan Beyer and Mary Shinn, witness to application for increase of pension
(Oct. 1866)
William Ashman, Phila., Attorney for Susannah Townsend
Nathan Jacoby, Judge, Montgomery County
Samuel and Susannah Morton, witnesses on behalf of Susannah Townsend, claimed
to know her for 20 years (Dec. 1864)
James Bandfield, Phila., veteran who provided witness statement placing
Charles at Andersonville and in grave health in August 1864(July 1865)
John Hayes, witness to Mr. Bandfield's mark
Mary Kirk and Sarah Roxborough, witness statements regarding the marriage of
Charles and Susannah (July 1865)
